A practice or a task performed regularly, often without thought or affected by emotions;
Basically... a choice that you put on REPEAT!
Let's start with the beginning of the day. The morning.
I'm not too peppy in the morning. And I'm not here to tell you 934 specific things you need to do in the morning for your routine. I'm just going to tell you that you should have one. A routine. (YOU get a routine, and YOU get a routine...you can almost hear Oprah saying it, can't you?!)
My morning routine? I stumble downstairs, every single morning, and make my coffee. It's the same coffee I've been drinking for who-knows-how-long?! But it's there for me, everyday. And my supplements. And that's it. Then it's go, go, go!!
My morning routine of coffee is something I do not have to think about. I keep all the things I need for this coffee in once place, and have made it super easy so I REALLY don't have to think about any little thing.
Why do some habits succeed and other don't?!
The coffee habit is clearly a necessity, so of course I'm going to make sure it happens :) But... not all habits succeed.
Think about the stock market... and just like stock markets go up and down, so do your habits. Make some progress, and then you fall a little, and on and on. But as long as there's overall growth, you're good!
Long. Term. Gains.
Fun Fact: There's really no quick way to do anything! Stop wasting time on "quick fixes."
When you put all these systems and habits together, you can really cut through the overwhelm. (Tap here for more on overwhelm in Season 1, Episode 5.)
When something becomes a habit, it's no longer a dreaded chore. It takes away the negative thoughts.
You HAVE to vs. you GET to <--- game changing mindset shift!
Habit Examples
Laundry: The machines are run daily. Everyone has their own tasks related to it, creating an efficient daily system
Homework: Time and who is helping is setup ahead of time
A Habit Pie?! YUM.
Plan - The results that you want to achieve, the process, and decide who you are as it relates to this new habit
(Ex: "I am healthy." or "I am a prudent spender." or "I love to save money.")
Implement - Make it happen. Work through the process you have planned out.
Evaluate - What's working? What needs to be done differently?
